Description

Fruit drinks with hardly any fruit in them, light products that make you fat, sunflower oil in plastic bottles that give off toxic chemicals, sauces full of harmful additives, fruit with pesticide residues on it: the supermarket is full of foods that can damage your health. Fortunately, you can also find healthy, clean and 'fair' food on the shelves. In The Grocery Coach, I reveal how to recognise good-quality supermarket products among all the unhealthy factory food.

Recommended and not recommended
This book consists of clear lists of food products categorised into 'Recommended' and 'Not Recommended'. Thanks to colour coding and symbols, you can see at a glance which foods are safe to load into the shopping trolley - and which are better left on the shelves. All products come with important information and tips. A keyword index at the back makes looking up products extra easy. As the book has a handy pocket size, you can easily take it with you to your supermarket.

Harmful chemicals
In the supermarket, the biggest health hazard lies in compound industrial food. These 'laboratory products' have more to do with chemistry than cooking, according to Ralph Moorman. Sauces, spice mixes, cold cuts, ready meals, stock cubes, breakfast cereals: to boost sales, they are often packed with flavour enhancers, colourings and fragrances, hidden sugars and harmful fats. During the production process, valuable fibre, vitamins and minerals are not only lost - they also form substances that are harmful if we consume them on a daily basis.

Critical and independent
For practical reasons, Ralph Moorman selected only food products from Albert Heijn, Jumbo and EkoPlaza. However, all products are also available at other supermarkets - sometimes under a different name. There are no financial ties with supermarket chains. The grocery coach is strictly independent!
