I am a food technology engineer and specialised in the link between nutrition and hormones. I discovered that the most diverse (hormonal) complaints had a link with nutrition and started guiding people to change their lifestyle (including nutrition). I also started helping food companies to make their product range healthier and, together with them, develop new, healthy products for supermarkets and out-of-home shops. Below is my story:

The three levels of influencing

What's the best place to influence a football match? Screaming with a bag of chips behind the TV? Or roaring from a seat in the stands? Neither... Real influence is exerted by putting on your football boots, with the ball at your feet, as a player in that important match. As a nutritionist and food technologist, I have been through all three levels in recent years. Where I started in opposition behind the television, I am now on the pitch playing an important match.

Plan

Behind the television

When I was a student, I started designing healthier products. What struck me is that my product ideas were close to nature, but that this was often not at all welcomed by companies. After all, you cannot appropriate nature with patents and this means competitors can easily copy it. Moreover, at that time there was insufficient demand for core healthy products from the market, and thus no interest from the supermarket. So before I could convince supermarkets and producers, I had to get consumers behind me.

People

From the stands

I was inspired to go demand-side as a health coach and make as many people as possible aware of the healthiest choices in the supermarket. With the Hormone Factor, I teach people about the lifestyle causes of their health problems and how to address them. Through my books, social media, community, education and Hormone Factor coaches around the country, more and more people are getting inspired to make 'Hormone Factor proof' choices. As a result, their buying behaviour is changing, and supermarkets are more encouraged to respond to this healthy trend.

Product

On the field

As a food technology engineer, I see a role for me in helping manufacturers develop healthy products for this growing target group. However, I discovered that big players in the food industry often prioritise image over providing real health value. As a result, many compromises are made in products. The very health-conscious consumer is no longer buying into this and is looking for truly reliable products. I stand for uncompromising products and express this by being the conscience behind my products myself with my hallmark 'inspired by Ralph Moorman'.

Environment is stronger than Willpower

I believe that becoming stronger and more aware as human beings is the first step towards a healthier life, but it is also time for the second step. It is time to weaken our environment. As a human being, you are influenced by your environment. For instance, how do you still your cravings in a healthy way when you are standing in a gas station full of sugar and snacks? Therefore, it is important that that environment matches the life you actually want to live.

The knife cuts both ways

Based on that belief, I am committed as a coach to make people stronger, and as a developer of truly healthy products to weaken their environment. That way, it's easier for everyone to live healthy and thus grow old, and stay young.

I preach what i practice

I discovered that it is not difficult for me to live a healthy lifestyle. I have never been 'out of shape', and that may make me different from others. Because I didn't make my wound my job, or my mess my message. I made it my job simply because it made sense to me to help people with better products and a piece of awareness.

I work from an inner drive, and I believe that you can only do that if you know why you do what you do. Ever since I walked through Artis with my father as a child, I felt a deep-rooted curiosity about the origins of our food, and why animals in nature always ate 'pure nature', and why we as humans process our food the way we do.

Hallmark guidelines

My supermarket products are as little processed as possible, do not disturb blood sugar too much, contain few or no unnatural additives, have high nutritional value, are free of gluten, lactose and casein, and organic.
