Physician/ gynaecologist Manon Kerkhof in Eenvandaag
When I saw that title, I thought from past negative media experiences: here we go again... But nothing could be further from the truth!
What a lovely positive piece in which gynaecologist Manon Kerkhof explains that there is definitely an area where the medical profession lacks the knowledge, experience, skill and time. In that area, there is a nice role for a hormone coach. The doctor is also happy that there is much more focus on women-specific conditions because of hormone coaches. However, it is important to have a proper intake that rules out other causes of complaints.
Hormone coach training
I myself have been leading for almost 15 years hormone coaches up in my Hormone Factor Trainer training at Sonnevelt Training. This was not always appreciated by medics and colleagues.
For many years I had to defend myself against all kinds of disinformation they spread. Unfortunately, they did not respond to my invitations to join my training.
- For instance, I was criticised for teaching non-medics on a medical subject and thus putting lay people in a doctor's chair.
- Also, at that time, the important influence of diet and lifestyle on hormonal balance was greatly underestimated.
Difference between a lifestyle coach and hormone coach
Actually, a 'hormone coach' is a lifestyle coach who has a lot of knowledge and expertise in the field of hormones. A hormone coach can ensure that people with hormonal complaints feel heard and taken seriously, receive the right tailor-made lifestyle advice and are coached towards 'lasting' behavioural change.
Hormones, nutrition and lifestyle have an interaction that you shouldn't downplay. There are also all kinds of medical hormonal problems where both the doctor and the hormone coach can take their roles. In that case, cooperation and coordination is important. Fortunately, I see this happening more and more.
The media is now mostly about complaints in the area of the transition and the female cycle. However, there are many more hormonal complaints where doctor and hormone coach can reinforce each other. For example thyroid complaints, burnout (adrenal exhaustion), insulin resistance and sleep problems.
