For at least 15 years, I have been active in the health business. I have seen many concepts pass by. In recent years, however, I have mainly seen two opposites: Commercialists and do-gooders.
The 2 opposites
- The commercial-looking concepts that use push methods in an American way to market their products.
- And a movement that works from pull marketing and presents itself as do-gooders where making money has a small secondary role.
An apparent contradiction!
Since the release of The hormone factor on a business level, I have talked a lot with companies from both sides. Almost every time, there was only one conclusion: All concepts want to make money, but use a different strategy.
Be honest
Of course, it makes sense that making money is a very important drive to do what you do, but be honest about it. It is a lot easier to do business with a commercial company or person because it is just clear and transparent that money comes first.
The twilight zone where improving the world is paramount and money is not discussed is a minefield, where sooner or later you get into an argument if money then suddenly does turn out to be an issue. And believe me, it is always an issue, especially in the sustainability and health scene.
Making money is just beautiful!
- Money gives freedom. Being a lifelong slave to money can greatly limit your choices.
- With money, you can do brilliant things, like improving your products and service.
- Money can help others, if you can share.
- Money can give luxury, if you can use it smartly.
What matters is not how much money you make, but how. This is because the win-win has to be right, whether it is a deal with business partners, or with the buyers of the final product. Your principles are crucial here. Don't deviate from them, or you will be knocked back in the age of social media, long live social media!
What about myself?
And now to apply this to myself for a moment: Yes, I also want to make money. In the process, I have big missions that are very noble, such as the Making the supermarket healthier and helping people with a wide variety of health issues. If I also generate financial freedom during this journey then that is the icing on the cake for me. So the answer to the question of whether I am commercial: yes, of course!
